DO VAMPIRES DREAM OF FANGED SHEEP?

countingvampiresheep

It’s a lesser known fact that when a vampire lets a human drink their blood, the impact isn’t only physical. Humans will often report frequent dreams about the vampire, sometimes quite visceral and vivid in nature. But does the opposite occur? Will a vampire who feeds on a breather dream about them as well?

Come to think of it, do vampires dream at all?

Normally you’d think I was quite capable of answering the question for myself. But even in my human days I could never recall my dreams. Sometimes I doubted I even had them. This hasn’t changed since I became undead, though it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the case for all vampires.

I considered conducting an informal poll, but thought better of it. The very notion of dreaming is somewhat personal, and since no vampire has ever found fit to share their dreams (if they occur, that is), I can’t help but feel it would be somewhat poor form to ask. That and frankly, I don’t want to look like a complete idiot if it’s somehow common knowledge and my mere asking proves just how young a vampire I am.

But let’s suppose vampires can dream. In some cases I can imagine them being quite similar to the ones humans have. Showing up to your nest without clothes; nightmares of sunlit rays poring around you; the horrific feeling that your fangs are falling out as a symbol of powerlessness.

Where things get a bit trickier is in the realm of good dreams. Humans can fantasize increased power or sexual prowess. Their nightly rest can produce positive outcomes with work, great achievements and eternal glory. But what use are these to a vampire? Of course, we can find satisfaction in positive occurrences, but frankly, they are often well within our reach. Even great tasks aren’t insurmountable; we can well afford to take our time.

The obvious counter is a dream of watching a sunset. A secret wish for the ability to exist during the day. But this isn’t nearly as big a deal as some humans might believe. After all, if we really missed the sun so much, why would we allow ourselves to be turned in the first place?

So maybe the better question isn’t if vampires dream. It’s whether we ever stop dreaming.

Man, I love being a vampire.

@Yankee, I live in a state where the sun isn’t out much. Seattle and the place is crawling with Vampires but they don’t come out on a cloudy day.
Now, the dreams. I take blood from my boyfriend every time we are togather. I have extreamly vivid dreams about him. To the point, I have to say to myself. Was that a dream or did that really happen? I have asked him if he dreams of me. He said yes but not the way he use to dream in his human life. He said it is more like fleating images and my sent. Like in his human life..he still wakes up with a massive hard on. Some things never change. Right Andrew?

Sorry for the type O’s and miss spellings. I didn’t notice that until I posted. Dam!

Bill dreamed Sookie was in trouble in one of the early episodes of season one - just after her gran was killed. He rushed through the house to her bedside immediately upon waking, after dreaming she was being strangled.

    So yes, vampires can dream…

  8. KingofJamaica Says:

Not only can we dream but we can have nightmares. Dreams are hard to remember once I wake up but the nightmares used to stay with me the whole night. Ironic isn’t it? I, the stuff of nightmares, have nightmares. This should be a clue as to how terrifying they were for me. I think they could have been as a result of PTSD. And yes, vampires can have PTSD. In them I relived some the less pleasant moments of my life both before and after I was turned.

But I might be the exception rather than the rule. I have over the centuries suffered a range of sleep disorders including: insomnia, which I still suffer from; narcolepsy (excessive nighttime sleepiness); sleepwalking; and worst of all in my youth I suffered from chronic bruxism (grinding of the fangs) while asleep. The sound would drive my maker mad. I usually did it whenever I was having a nightmare. I no longer have them.

  9. Merick Says:

I have often wondered if they were dreams or visions that have come to me, though they are rare. I know I can daydream, does that count?

  10. Jane Doe Says:

Out of curiosity, if a human that has (the uncomfortable talents of) dream and waking visions of both past and future events. As well as clair-cognance prior to their change. What typically happens to them? I desire more than one opinion on this matter. I am certain that there are several who have some sort of experience be it in first person or that of the observer.

  11. Jane Doe Says:

So as to avoid simple-minded comments as to my above request for information, I will elaborate on a few points:

The person I am speaking of has no control as to what or when they receive information.
They are not in a sanitarium, nor do they belong in one.

  12. AtShadowsFall Says:

@Jane Doe - The ability is simalure to one I had as a human - being able to see events that happened to people I loved, even if miles away. Such as , I knew a friend broke there leg the day after it happened simply through dreams. The ability does weaken once turned , for me it wasnt a very noticeable change, but there are others that have gotten it to become stronger and others who lose it all together, I speak only of what I have experienced, and storys others have told me.

  14. Niubi Says:

I’d wager that vampires, being undead, do not need to sleep, since all the corporeal and restorative functions are carried out via blood and being generally vampirish. I am now wondering, though, if one could buy a cute little fanged sheep, though! Perhaps they sell them at DubLi?

  15. Zukuah Says:

I’ve never even really wondered if others dream. It isn’t something that is talked about. I do believe our nightmares are more intense than most human nightmares, however, given our wider range of experiences and senses. Then again, maybe my nightmares are more intense than others just because of my own issues.

Why wont just one of you louisiana vampires or any vampire thats goodlooking anyway(male please) come make me a believer. Not talking about silly humans who think that they are vampire just because they are lost from this world so they cut on their friends, im talking to REAL vampires here.I have been here in louisiana all of my life and never even once came across an inkling of a feeling that anyone even in new orleans was a real undead vampire. So if you are real undead vampire, able to glamor me then what are you waiting for, where are you and why would you hide from one who is willing to work with you, of course if your real? I never said i want to be a vampire so dont mistake me, i said make me a believer.. I am just here in louisiana, lafayette louisiana that is, well near enough to lafayette, where are you, do you ever hang out on jefferson street on fridays or saturdays, if not , why? Thats where you might find me. But of course i doubt any of you REAL vampires will ever find me. Because you say you dont hang out with humans, whatever. That is nonsence. Be brave, i mean i know this site is just based on a series for HBO . but it got the attention of REAL vampires so, go along with it vampires, work toward getting your rights. Be brave and come hang out on jefferson st downtown lafayette la. Clubs all the way down jefferson. I will make you a deal, if you can deal? My deal is this, if you can find me, then if your glamor works on me, i’ll be ok with you biting me, if your glamor does not work then you have to buy my drinks for the rest of that night. Any serious takers, come you know you just cant resist a challenge, especially when blood is involved. Come on down all vamps welcome, invited what else can i say to get you so hot and interested that you WILL come here and deal with me. Just want proof for my own mind that you are indeed what you claim to be. We will have a great time come on over…
